This course is intended to assist the therapist in musculoskeletal tissue differential diagnosis as it relates to nerve pathology. We will utilize the standard procedural flow with emphasis on concordant signs specific to nerve tissue pathology. We will discuss the biomechanics of normal nerve function followed by the pathophysiology and pathomechanics of nerve dysfunction. We will cover diagnostic and medical considerations as well as precautions and contraindications during evaluation and treatment. The therapist will be able to understand and differentiate between peripheral and central sensitization. Spinal, upper extremity, and lower extremity entrapment sites will be discussed as it relates to clinical pathology. Case studies will be discussed to help the therapist differentially diagnose and initiate treatment on these spinal and extremity pathologies. He/she will also be able to educate the patient and develop a home treatment protocol. Significant lab time will be devoted to special testing of nerves, neurologic differentiation of nerve dysfunction, and palpation.
