Welcome to Dry Needling Level 1

Welcome to IAMT’s Dry Needling – Level 1 course! We look forward to a fun and exciting weekend of learning. We want to make sure you are prepared for the weekend. Below are some updates on what to expect for your upcoming course.

Please complete the next modules as your pre-reading for the weekend course. There is approx. 3hr and 30 min of content to review prior to the course.

A thorough knowledge of anatomy (origins, insertions, innervations, and spinal level) is required for this course. It is necessary to review the major muscles of the limbs and trunk prior to the course. You will find a muscle list listed as a pre-course module.

  • Agenda – This course is very lab focused. There will be a mixture of lab and lecture on each day. There will be a written and practical exam on the final day to test for competency.
  • Attire – Please be sure to wear loose comfortable clothing to this course. If possible, bring a pair of shorts that you can change into. We will be needling the thigh on day one and will need access to that region.
  • Food – Course snacks and food are not guaranteed to be provided. We leave the option to provide snacks/food up to the course host. Due to the nature of receiving dry needling throughout the weekend, we recommend staying hydrated and to have snacks available for yourself. There is not a dedicated “Lunch Break” on day one and we ask that you plan accordingly. There will be multiple breaks that will allow you to eat and drink as you wish. Day two and day three will have dedicated lunch times and each participant will be on their own for this break time.
  • Precautions/Contraindications – Below is a chart with dry needling precautions and contraindications. If you fall into one of these categories of having precautions/contraindications for being dry needled, we ask you to update the instructor to plan how to approach the course or specific body region of precaution/contraindication.
    • Pregnancy – Pregnant participants are allowed to attend this course. We ask that pregnant participants not be needled during the weekend, as it falls into the precautions for dry needing. Please notify your instructor of any modifications needed for participation in this course.
