This online course is designed for PTs/PTAs/OTs/OTAs/ATCs to gain an understanding of anatomical and physiological changes during pregnancy and postpartum as well as evaluation and treatment approaches for this population. An emphasis is placed on the necessary assessments for the patient who is pregnant/postpartum with appropriate modifications in positioning, exercise prescription, and physiological monitoring. Common medical diagnoses during pregnancy/postpartum and the associated medical restrictions will be discussed in the course. We will also dive into the effects of labor and delivery on the musculoskeletal system and their considerations for rehab. Exercise is an essential component to rehab for this population. We will discuss return to exercise timeline and physical activity guidelines for the pregnant and postpartum population. Select interventions discussed will include neuro re-education, therapeutic exercise, manual therapy, and taping techniques to support a holistic approach to care.

Course Level: Intermediate

Prerequisites: PH:Ortho (Recommended), Pelvic health clinical experience, or equivalent introductory training.
