Treatment of the Pre and Post Natal Patient

This 1 hour webinar will discuss treatment strategies appropriate for pre and post-natal patients, with specific focus on pelvic floor interventions, as this patient population is correlated with dysfunction of the pelvic floor as an impairment. Patient cases will be presented, highlighting clinical decision making skills with application of assessment strategies covered in the previous 2 webinars, and aiming to facilitate appropriate patient care with skill set to palpate the pelvic floor muscles externally or internally. External support strategies will be reviewed, including sacroiliac belts and taping strategies.

By the end of this module, the participant will be able to:

  1. Identify common symptoms for pelvic floor overactivity vs underactivity
  2. Identify which of these symptoms would indicate need for implementation of uptraining vs downtraining of the pelvic floor musculature.
  3. Demonstrate basic education regarding various forms of biofeedback and indication for use.
  4. Select basic interventions for treatment of over/underactivity.
  5. Demonstrate awareness and indication for use for support strategies including SI belts, belly support bands, taping, etc.
