Rehab Considerations for Upper Quarter Injuries in Youth Athletes


This call is an intermediate level call intended for PT/OT/PTA/OTA/ATC currently treating patients participating in recreational and organized athletics. This 1-hour presentation will focus on the rehabilitation of the youth athlete following various upper quarter injuries. The number of youths participating in sports continues to increase each year. As young athletes are specializing in sports earlier and earlier, clinicians are continuing to see a rise in traumatic and overuse injuries. Recognition of injuries, informed rehabilitation, and education on prevention strategies are key to the longevity of a young athlete’s career.

After attending this call, the participant will:

  • Recognize the increasing rates of sports participation and injury in youth athletics
  • Recognize risk factors for upper extremity injuries in youth athletes
  • Identify common upper quarter injuries in youth athletes
  • Apply physical therapy modifications to decrease injury risk in youth athletes
