Concussion Concepts for the Student Athlete


This call is an intermediate level call intended for PT/OT/PTA/OTA/ATC currently treating patients participating in recreational and organized athletics. This 1-hour presentation will focus on the use of considerations of concussion rehabilitation for student athletes. Sports related concussions happen in various sports and in all ages. When treating concussion related symptoms in a student athlete, clinicians should consider return to learn progressions in addition to return to sports decision making. Understanding of integration back to both cognitively and physically taxing demands for youth athletes can limit protracted recovery.

After attending this call, the participant will:

  • Recognize the prevalence of concussion in youth sports
  • Recognize the uniqueness of concussion management in youth athletes
  • Identify return to learn progression for student athletes
  • Identify return to play progression for youth athletes
